My story

I was born and raised in the Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma community, in the United States. When I was nine years old, like many of my closest friends, I went to India to attend boarding school. For the next eight years the experience of India opened my eyes to a completely different way of life, and formed the foundation of my spiritual discipline. During these formative years I faced many challenges which affected my perception of life and my place in it. I was on a self destructive path, often making bad choices with serious consequences. At the age of seventeen upon graduating from boarding school in India, I realized that I was not happy with the direction of my life and where it was taking me. I needed a radical change that would help me grow, heal and create new positive habits. In my search for clarity I devoted myself to a 40-day practice of Kundalini Yoga and recitations for 8 hours a day with the intention of having an experience that could help me find my path. It was during this intense practice that I had a profound experience of connection to my higher self, and I knew that I was on the right path. The process inspired me to dig deeper, and what I found was my point of inner silence. The search for that clarity on who I was and what I wanted for my life was over.

As I began to make choices that were in line with my experience of self, life gave me the opportunity to study many spiritual disciplines under many great teachers and guides, including my first spiritual teacher, ‘Siri Singh Sahib Ji’ (Yogi Bhajan). I feel so fortunate to have had his presence and guidance in my life. It was at that point that Yogi Ji entrusted me to serve and help develop his vision of a spiritual school in northern India known as Miri Piri Academy. This is where I dedicated my life, serving with my blood, sweat and tears for twenty five years, the last ten of which I was appointed to the position of Executive Principal. During my years in India I became a KRI certified lead Teacher Trainer for levels 1 and 2, a Minister of Sikh Dharma and gained invaluable experience as a mentor and lifestyle coach. I was fortunate to find several other teachers who guided me further on this path, and spent many years studying the roots of Japa and Mantra, the Punjabi and Gurumukhi languages, and classical Indian singing. This led to the formation of the Chardi Kala Jatha (CKJ), an Indian classical style Kirtan group. As we became more proficient in music the opportunities to share it grew. For twenty years we have been invited to travel the world and perform Classical Kirtan in many Sikh communities and temples around the world, including the most revered Sri Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple in Amritsar. We continue to perform devotional Kirtan to this day.

Another aspect of my journey, and one of my most cherished, was with Gurudev Singh Ji, master of the healing art of our tradition called Sat Nam Rasayan. He was a highly respected traditional healer from Mexico, and a devoted student of Yogi Bhajan. His influence helped me develop and refine the practice of Shunya and Deep Listening through silence and Tapasya. He taught me the roots of the sacred practice of Mantra and Japa, and he mentored me to monitor the Reman Japa and Kundalini Surjee Japa intensives. He offered unique tools for spiritual growth, challenged me to look within, and held me accountable as I developed my personal Sadhana practice. I had the privilege to sit with him as he coached hundreds of students over the years. He taught me and personally guided my understanding of this process and responsibility. He encouraged me to further develop these aspects of the teachings, and to create a system to share them in a more refined way. This led me to create a coaching system for people searching for a deeper state of self awareness and profound transformation. His impact on my life, along with many other great teachers, has inspired me to share my experience with others and the practice of this path of Tapasya.
